Lomi Lomi is much more than massage. The Hawaiian word, "Lomi," means "to take and turn", or, "to shift". In Hawaiian, when a word is repeated twice, its importance is emphasized. Therefore, when we speak of the art of Lomi Lomi, we are speaking of the sacred energy shift within you as your vibration is raised and you are opened toward healing.
The key to this practice is alignment of the body, mind, heart, and spirit through loving touch. Although ancient in origin, it is still practiced today - both by native healers, as well as in the finest spas around the world. Traditionally, everyone in the 'ohana, or "family," knew Lomi Lomi and practiced it daily. Native healers practiced it as physical therapy to cure injury and illness.
What is it that makes Lomi Lomi so unique? It starts with aloha 'aina, or "love of the land". In Hawaiian belief, there exists the idea that the land itself is healing. They believe that certain areas possess powerful restorative properties. Hawaii's last reigning monarch, Queen Lili'ukalani, knew of the curative effect of her land at Waikiki, naming her residence, Hamohamo, meaning "to massage with oil".
The healing facilitated by Lomi Lomi is performed not only on the physical plane, but on a much deeper level. According to Hawaiian philosophy, similar to the way that our muscles become tight, so too may our spiritual energy become blocked. Long continuous strokes - combined with the power of prayer, breath, and loving touch - help to release these blockages and promote a free and abundant flow of new energy.
Lomi Lomi springs from the deep spirituality of the Hawaiians. Prayer has always been an essential part of their daily lives. Native Lomi Lomi practitioners pray before, during, and after treatment. During your session, your practitioner will be a clear conduit for healing energy. The thoughts and actions of your therapist will be focused on your well being throughout your massage.
We invite you in to relax and enjoy your Lomi Lomi massage.
